Dr. Wier is the Founder and Principal of Purple Desert Consulting. Dr. Wier is an educator and researcher in the field of sustainability. She has over 25 years of professional experience with 17 of those years as an international development practitioner. Dr. Wier has both led and collaborated on academic and field research, managed international programs, and provided leadership and strategy for broad-scale initiatives. Her field experience includes the design of community-based programs, research, and evaluation using participatory methods. Betsy lived and worked in Latin America for over a decade managing country and regional level programs for an international NGO. She went on to manage global level projects and initiatives for several years. From 2017 to 2020, Betsy worked in Academia in a research capacity related to One Health approaches. Since 2018, she has co-led a community-based, one health research project on the Navajo reservation. Dr. Wier holds an MA in International Development from the Josef Korbel School for International Studies, University of Denver and a Ph.D. in Sustainability Education from Prescott College. She lives in Fort Collins, CO.
